PREMIO NOBEL 1983\William Gerald Golding wurde am 19. September 1911 in St. Columb Minor/Cornwall geboren. Er begann im Alter von sieben Jahren zu schreiben. Er studierte aber später zunächst Naturwissenschaften und Englisch an einem Oxforder College. Ein erstes Buch mit Gedichten erschien ein Jahr vor seinem Studienabschluss. Ab 1939 lehrte er in Salisbury Englisch. Golding nahm als Soldat am Zweiten Weltkrieg teil. Diese Kriegserfahrung waren prägend für sein weiteres Schaffen. 1983 erhielt der britische Schriftsteller den Nobelpreis für Literatur. Er starb am 19. Juni 1993 in Perranworthal/Cornwall. Golding’s first chapter describes a new world, an uninhabited tropical island, which a group of English boys discover after their plane crashes, killing all the adults on board. The first two characters described are Ralph, the tall boy with fair hair, and Piggy, said by Golding to be a short and very fat child. While Ralph seems perfectly content and almost exited with the prospect of being free of adults and on his own in this strange island, Piggy, the perpetual voice of the adult world, is terrified by the idea of having no grown-ups to take charge. Piggy continually makes references to his auntie, who has instilled in him the logic and reasoning of adult England. \Inglés |
